Kespry Cloud: Measure Workspace - Model Volume

Kespry’s Model Volume tool enables you to create a 3-D polygon and calculate the quantity of material to be removed for proposed excavation and blasts. This feature allows you to gather cut/fill calculations in comparison to design surfaces, fixed elevation, another mission or base points. You can also change sidewall angles to better model your excavation or blasts to get accurate cut/fill volumes.   To use the Model Volume tool, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Navigate to the Measure Workspace in the Kespry Cloud.

  2. Select Model Volume in the toolbox located at the bottom right of the screen.

  3. Drop points in a clockwise or counter-clockwise to create a polygon. Double click on the last point of your polygon or click on the first point your dropped to close your polygon.

  4. A 3D model of your polygon will appear with the angles between each point, your cut/fill data on the right, and your comparison options on the left.

  5. The polygon on the map will show the length of each line segment here.

  6. Missions processed with PPK or RTK are enabled to compare the polygon against a design surface, fixed elevation, another mission, or base points. Missions that are not processed with PPK or RTK can only compare the polygon against base points.

  7. To compare your polygon against a design surface:

    1.  Select Surface

    2. If you have already uploaded a design plan for this site, it will be available to select in the dropdown under Surface

    3. If you would like to upload a design plan, select +Add a Surface under Surface

    4. Once selected, the 3D model will update and display your polygon and the design surface as a base

    5. The cut/fill values will also update on the right side.

  8. To compare your polygon against a  fixed elevation value:

    1. Select Elevation on the left  and enter the elevation value you would like to use as a base

    2. The 3D model will update to reflect the fixed elevation value.

    3. The cut/fill values will also update on the right side.

    4. You can always use contour values as a guide. See Kespry Cloud: Measure Workspace - Layers

  9. To compare your polygon to another mission,

    1. Select Mission on the left and select the mission you would like to compare against

    2. The 3D model will update to reflect the selected mission as your base.

    3. The cut/fill values will also update on the right side.

  10. To compare your polygon against base points:

    1. Select Base Points on the left

    2. Right click on the map above to drop base points to represent the ground or the base plane you would like to measure your polygon against

    3. The 3D model will update to reflect the base plane represented by the base points.

    4. The cut/fill values will also update on the right side.

    5. You can delete any point by right clicking on it.

    6. You also have the option to move any point by clicking on one and moving them to the desired location

  11. You can compare your polygon to another base as well by selecting an option under Volume 2

  12. On the 3D model, your current mission will be displayed with an orange border, your first comparison surface with purple and the second comparison surface in green.

  13. You have the option to change your sidewall angles by clicking on the angle label. Your cut fill volumes on the right side will update to reflect the changes in the angle.

    1. The ability to change angles is only supported for cut volumes, so your comparison surface has to be below your current mission.

  14. If you would like to hide your angle or comparison surface labels, you can use the toggle button at the bottom.

  15. To calculate your cut/fill mass, you can add a density value on the left and the values will be reflected on the right side.

  16. After naming and describing your polygon, click Save to be able to refer back to this area, or click Delete if the polygon does not need to be saved.

  17. Once saved, you have the ability to edit a polygon by clicking on it on the map or from a list of all polygons and markers on the left pane and then selecting Edit

    1. If you would like to move your polygon to a different area, click on the arrow button on your polygon on the map and drag it to the desired area

  18. You have the option to duplicate your polygon by clicking on the Duplicate button located on the top left corner of the Model Volume window
