White Balance Settings

An option to change the white balance settings is presented during the Preflight check. White balance refers to a camera setting that is used to control how colors are captured in different kinds of light. A correctly set white balance takes into account the color of the light at your site producing a natural-looking image that should make whites in the image appear to be as close to white as possible. Sometimes depending on the lighting conditions, an operator may need to correct this setting in order to properly represent whites helping make sure the data collected and the later processed results are as accurate as possible.

The Kespry app provides a maximum of four choices, Default, Sunny, Cloudy, and Auto. Note: The shutter speed used will be 1/400 of a second except for the Sunny setting which will move to 1/800 of a second.

Default

The Default setting will work for most situations. This value used here will be based on the white balance observed in the first photo taken by the drone and used for all subsequent photos in that mission.

Sunny

This setting is designed to be used for scenes that involve sunny and bright light conditions.

Cloudy

This setting is designed to be used for scenes that involve cloudy and low light conditions

Auto

This is the most dynamic of all of the settings. Here the software will access each photo and adjust the balance to be appropriate for that image. This may result in a lack of tonal uniformity among the photos taken over the duration of the mission.

Editing the White Balance Setting

During the preflight check, the operator can decide to edit the white balance by tapping the “EDIT” button and then select one of the options described above for the mission.
