User Assisted Landing with DJI Drones

With user assisted landing, you have the ability and option to adjust your landing if necessary. The drone will attempt precision landing as before, but you will be able to see where the drone is landing with a live video feed and have the flexibility to adjust where you want the drone to land. This is very helpful in cases where the landing area is no longer safe to land (e.g. a car has parked where you took off from) or you see there may be GPS drift where it looks like the drone may not land exactly where it took off from.

As your drone is descending, the drone’s camera rotates straight down and you will see a live stream of the drone’s landing position. The crosshairs on the screen indicate where the drone will land. You can allow the drone to continue landing as usual, or press the 'Pause' button on the iPad to alter the drone's landing location. After the ‘Pause’ button has been pressed, you will see arrows that allow you to incrementally move the drone in any direction. If an obstacle is detected, you will see yellow warning lines at 16 feet (5 meters) and red warning lines at 6.5 feet (2 meters) at which point, you will not be able to move the drone in that direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can I pause and continue landing?

There is no limit on the number of times you can pause and continue landing.

How far can I move the drone?

You can incrementally move the drone as far as you would like.

What happens if the video feed has a glitch or fails?

Before take-off, we make sure that there are no camera errors. If however there is a failure, you can still pause and incrementally move the drone.

What happens if the app closes or quits during landing?

The drone will continue in its current state (landing or paused).

What happens if the gimbal is unable to point the camera downwards?

Before take-off, we make sure that there are no gimbal errors. If however there is a failure, you can still pause and incrementally move the drone.

What happens if the drone gets close to an obstacle?

The app will indicate an obstacle detection if the obstacle is in front or behind the drone. There is no additional obstacle detection or avoidance capability beyond this, as you will be able to see where the drone is going and are able to incrementally move it in the direction you would like it to land.

If an obstacle is detected, you will see yellow warning lines at 16 feet (5 meters) and red warning lines at 6.5 feet (2 meters) at which point, you will not be able to move the drone in that direction.

Can I move the drone outside the safe area?

Yes, you have full control over the drone.

What happens if the battery is low during landing?

At 13% battery life if the drone is paused it will start landing. You can still continue to pause and move the drone but at 10% battery, the drone will land without allowing you to move it any more.
